Taylor Winters
Hi, I'm Taylor Winters, Ph.D. Student in Bioengineering at University of California, San Diego. I have a strong background in examining the structure-function relationships of living tissue through in vivo testing and protein quantification.
Taylor Winters will graduate with a PhD in Bioengineering at UCSD in August, 2012. His dissertation focuses on examining structure-function relationships in rabbit skeletal muscle. To accomplish this, he successfully induced muscle remodeling via surgical tenotomy, and subsequently, measured the mechanical properties and protein alterations. He will complete his PhD with nine papers published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, Taylor Winters graduated Cum Laude from UCSD, was apart of the prestigious MS/BS program at UCSD, and received the TA Excellence Award for Bioengineering.
Taylor Winters's Background
Taylor Winters's Experience
Graduate Researcher (Ph.D.) at University of California, San Diego; Department of Bioengineering
July 2008 - Present | La Jolla, California
Produced an animal model of fibrosis in 36 rabbits using a minimally invasive surgical approach. Identified key structures responsible for functional outcomes in normal & pathologic muscle. Developed a custom testing apparatus & protocol to test muscle from the system- to the cell-level. Manufactured an arthroscopic biopsy clamp & validated its reliability on deep & superficial muscles. Interfaced effectively with scientists across departments to complete a PhD on a budget of $8,000
Graduate Teaching Assistant at University of California, San Diego; Department of Bioengineering
2008 - 2009 | La Jolla, California
Won Teaching Assistant Excellence Award for Bioengineering in 2009. Listened actively and summarized comments to ensure understanding. Taught discussion sections twice weekly and laboratory classes thrice weekly for approximately 30 students. Guest lectured in front of 300 students.
Graduate Researcher (Master's) at University of California, San Diego; Department of Bioengineering
April 2006 - July 2008 | La Jolla, California
Designed & fabricated a MRI- & MEG-compatible testing device with a team of engineers. Validated the conditions in which a new intramuscular pressure sensor acts as a surrogate for force. Responsible for the acquisition & analysis of complex signals from ultrasound, MRI, and sensors
Undergraduate Researcher at University of California, San Diego; Department of Bioengineering
September 2005 - April 2006 | La Jolla, California
Increased productivity by automating data analysis through custom Matlab scripts.
Summer Intern, Engineering Division at Flightline Products
June 2005 - September 2005 | Valencia, California
Digitized and drafted FAA-approved aeronautical parts for industrial manufacture
